About Us — Section 2: Our Approach
Dr. Sorina Simion-Rodgers reviewing a patient's health information

Our Approach

Traditional medical care often focuses on addressing individual symptoms or conditions. At Bionuu, we begin by asking a broader question: what factors may be contributing to your health concerns?

We review your complete health history, family history, genetic information when appropriate, and your current health status to better understand the connections between different aspects of your health. From there, we create a comprehensive plan based on your individual needs, health goals, and lifestyle. There is no single plan used for everyone.

An important part of this process is helping you understand your own health information. As we review your laboratory results and health history together, you begin to recognize patterns, understand what your numbers mean, and learn what areas may need attention. Over time, managing your health can become less overwhelming and more empowering.

About Us — Section 3: Who We Care For

Who We Care For

There is no single type of Bionuu patient. Most people come to us for one of two main reasons, and we use the same comprehensive, root-cause approach for both.

Wellness and Longevity

People who want to support their health, maintain cognitive function, achieve a healthy weight, build strength, and take proactive steps toward long-term wellness. This also includes individuals looking for support with chronic health concerns such as long COVID, Lyme disease, high blood pressure, and other chronic conditions or infections.

Cancer Support

Patients of all ages and cancer types who are seeking additional support for their health and quality of life, either as a standalone approach or alongside their conventional cancer care. We see patients from their teens through their eighties. While our patients represent a broad age range, many are between their twenties and seventies, with a large portion in their mid-thirties through mid-sixties.

Regardless of the reason someone comes to Bionuu, our focus is on understanding the individual as a whole and developing a comprehensive plan based on their health history, goals, and needs.

About Us — Section 8: How Bionuu Began

How Bionuu Began

Dr. Simion-Rodgers began her medical training in Romania, where she entered a Family Medicine residency before moving to the United States. She then completed her residency in Psychiatry and practiced in a variety of clinical settings, including private hospitals, state facilities, community mental health centers, and private practice.

Throughout her medical career, she remained committed to understanding the whole person rather than focusing solely on individual symptoms. While she deeply values conventional Western medicine and the important role it plays in patient care, she also recognized that it has limitations in addressing the complex factors that influence health and long-term well-being.

This interest led her to explore Functional and Integrative Medicine at a time when the field was still emerging. She completed extensive training through specialized courses, attended numerous conferences, and studied a wide range of approaches to better understand how nutrition, lifestyle, environmental factors, and other influences contribute to health.

Dr. Simion-Rodgers continues to expand her knowledge through ongoing education in Integrative and Functional Medicine, with a particular interest in evidence-informed integrative approaches and emerging therapies for health optimization and healthy aging.

Over time, she integrated these principles into her medical practice and eventually established Bionuu to provide a more comprehensive approach to health. After practicing at several locations, Bionuu moved to its current location more than five years ago, where it continues to serve patients seeking an integrative approach to their health.

The clinic became Bionuu in 2015, serving the greater Denver area.

Today, Bionuu brings a wide range of services together under one roof, creating a comprehensive care plan based on each individual's health needs. We care for individuals seeking to optimize their health, manage acute or chronic illnesses as well as those looking for integrative cancer support, and we continue to expand access to patients in additional states. Our mission has remained the same from the beginning: to help people better understand their health and support lasting improvements in their well-being.

About Us — Section 6: What's Inside Your Care Plan

What’s Inside Your Care Plan

Your care plan is organized into clear sections, so you can easily understand your health priorities and the recommendations designed to support them.

Diet: Foods to include and foods to limit based on your medical history, symptoms, and laboratory results.

Labs and tests that are recommended.

Foundational Supplements: Nutritional support to promote overall health and optimal body function.

Targeted Supplements and Medications: Recommendations focused on the specific health concerns identified during your evaluation, for example inflammation, insulin resistance, or metabolic imbalances to name a few.

In-Clinic Services: Advanced services available at Bionuu that complement nutrition, supplements, and medications.

Specialized Protocols: More focused approaches for specific health concerns, including protocols used to support individuals with cancer.

We do not introduce every recommendation at once. This step-by-step approach makes the plan easier to follow, allows your body time to adapt, and helps us evaluate your progress before adding additional recommendations. From the beginning, you will receive a complete roadmap so you always know what comes next.

About Us — Section 5: What Your Care Looks Like

What Your Care Looks Like

From your first visit to lasting health, here is what you can expect at each step.

1

Health history

You share your history, labs, records, and family history. A nurse reviews it with you so nothing is missed.

2

First visit

A 60-minute visit with the doctor to talk about your symptoms, history, diet, sleep, and stress and your health goals.

3

Testing

We order the labs that fit your case. This can include blood, hormone, and toxicology tests. Blood work can be scheduled through standard laboratories such as Labcorp or Quest, where clients may use their health insurance coverage when applicable. For those without insurance, we can recommend lower-cost laboratory options.

Specialized testing, including advanced blood, urine, stool, saliva, genetic tests, and liquid biopsies, is typically the client's responsibility, as these tests are often not covered by health insurance.

4

Care plan

A written plan for your diet, supplements, medicine, and therapies, in an easy to follow, step-by step format.

5

Ongoing Visits and Monitoring

Most patients begin with monthly visits and laboratory monitoring while we establish a baseline and make adjustments based on their health goals and progress. Once things are more stable, visits typically move to every three to six months.

There is a core set of laboratory tests that we monitor at each visit. Other tests, such as genetic testing, are generally performed only once. Some specialized evaluations, such as comprehensive gut health testing, may be repeated after approximately six months to review changes after you have had time to implement recommendations.

Your First Visit

Although your one-on-one consultation with the physician is approximately one hour, your initial visit involves about three hours of our team's time. This includes gathering and organizing your health history, reviewing medical records, researching relevant information related to your case, developing your care plan, ordering laboratory tests and medications, and coordinating with laboratories, pharmacies, and other providers when needed.

About Us — Section 10: Questions About Our Approach

Questions About Our Approach

What makes your approach different from regular care?

Traditional medical care often focuses on addressing individual symptoms. At Bionuu, we begin by looking deeper to understand the factors that may be contributing to your health concerns. We consider your complete health history, genetic information when appropriate, and your current health status to develop a comprehensive plan focused on supporting your body's function and addressing underlying factors.

What happens during my first visit?

Before your first visit, a nurse helps gather your health history so we can understand your background and make sure important details are not missed. Your initial appointment includes approximately 60 minutes with the doctor to discuss your symptoms, medical history, diet, sleep, stress, and other factors that may influence your health.

In total, your first visit involves approximately three hours of our team's time, including preparation, review, and care coordination. After your evaluation and any recommended testing, you receive a clear written care plan outlining your recommendations and next steps.

Do I need to do everything at once?

No. Most care plans begin with two or three priorities. The rest of the plan is still outlined from the beginning, with notes about when each recommendation should be introduced. Once the initial priorities are addressed, we move on to the next steps.

You see the complete picture from the start, but you only focus on a few changes at a time. This approach makes the plan easier to follow while allowing each step to receive the attention it deserves.

Do you offer phone or video visits?

Yes. Colorado and Pennsylvania residents can meet with us by phone or video when traveling to the clinic is difficult. At this time, we provide care only for patients who live in Colorado or Pennsylvania. We are currently working toward obtaining additional state licenses so we can expand access and serve patients in more locations.

Do you manage both medicine and supplements?

Yes. We manage your medications and supplements together as part of one coordinated plan. We review your recommendations over time and make adjustments as your health needs change, helping ensure that all aspects of your care work together.

How often will I need to come in?

Most patients begin with monthly visits and regular laboratory monitoring while we establish a baseline and make adjustments as needed. Once health goals and recommendations are more stable, visits typically transition to every three to six months.

We begin with a few key priorities and gradually add additional recommendations over time. This step-by-step approach helps make your care plan manageable while allowing each area to receive the attention it needs.
